I’ve had tattoos on the brain this week.  My good friend Lawrence is apprenticing at Vancouver’s Industrial Ink tattoo shop and he, like me, is a huge fan of Alphonse Mucha’s work.  He went on Facebook to offer a free tattoo based on this piece, but with a focus on the Pacific Northwest’s flora and fauna.  Needless to say, I jumped on the chance as soon as I saw it, and yesterday we met for a planning session and to begin laying down the linework for what will be a half-sleeve on my right arm.  Seven hours later, I got to come home with this.

This is my first representational tattoo.  I have several, and all of them I designed myself in an abstract, geometrical style intended to compliment the natural anatomy of the body.  So this is a big switch for me!  It’s going to look incredible, and I’m really lucky to have a friend like Lawrence who adores Mucha as much as I do.  To give an idea of my regular style preference for ink, this is a tattoo I designed for a male.  Someone… someday…

  1. This is pretty rad, you’ll have to post pics as it gets started.
