I’ve been working on a long-standing barter project that’s very near and dear to my heart. My 13-year-old son just received his black belt hapkido at Portland’s Ninja School, a martial arts academy specializing in Heuk Choo Kwan style that’s dedicated to their students’ transformations and sense of personal empowerment. The owners are really awesome folks, and we worked out a trade for my son’s tuition in exchange for a comic book to promote the school. It’s been a great project, and the storyline they’ve been cooking up is expanding well. Here’s a sample of the work we’ve done so far.

Reddit Gets Drawn

I recently joined Reddit (woohoo, time waster!) and discovered a subreddit in which people around the world post photos in the hopes that one of the artists in the community will draw them. It’s a surprisingly good drawing prompt. I wish people posted more pet pictures though.

Armageddon Sekrit Santa 2013

photo (1)Armageddon Sekrit Santa 2013

Here’s the elf I drew this year for my gaming community’s secret santa project. She didn’t have nipple like last year’s, but I think the recipient will be pleased nonetheless. The other image is a little certificate I drew up on request for another player to give to their secret santa. It’s an artful Christmas!

Two of my sisters are getting married this summer, and my twin has involved me heavily in the graphic design for her invitations and wedding information website.  She’s planning on an all-weekend throw-down badass camp-out wedding in the woods, and she asked me to draw some pictures illustrating the dress-up theme for each day of theweekend.  Here we have Happy Camper day, Crazy Hat day, and Solid Color day.

You Can Talk the Talk, But Can You Wok the Wok?

I’m pleased to announce the release of my first t-shirt designs for sale on Redbubble.  I had a great outpouring of love for these particular pieces when I posted them on my Facebook page, so I decided to try out this whole merchandising thing.  They’re available as stickers, kids’ clothing, and tees and hoodies for adults.  I was a little disappointed that I didn’t have more control over pricing, but RB’s gotta make their buck too, c’est la vie. Enjoy! Buy!

Sekrit Santa

My contribution to my gaming community’s sekrit santa gift exchange. You’re welcome, stranger in Great Britain! I received a really beautiful pair of Aztec-inspired gold earrings from a player in Florida.

Send in the Clowns

This is a quick piece I did for Scott Foster’s Good gallery’s most recent group show. There were some really amazing pieces this time! I knew Scott was going to dress up in full clown regalia, so I stopped by the party store before the opening and bought a dozen red foam clown noses. We put them in a bowl next to the wine and they were a huge hit. My pug clown’s nose was a real pompom that I glued onto him.

The Death of a Sketchbook

When I draw in my sketchbooks, I have a compulsive need to fill them in chronologically, page by page — no skipping around. But I get really impatient once I reach the last several blank sheets because I can’t wait to start with a fresh new book. So for the next couple weeks, I’m going to crank it out so my old 1/4page art-store-sale crappy-papered book will finally be finished!
