Puppet Bucket

Meet the crew!  I’m pleased to announce that my crew and I will be performing April 11 & 12 at Imago Theater in Portland for the next Portland Puppet Slam.  Clockwise from the top we have Uncle Shelby, the Calistoga Kid, and Pearly Sweetcakes, everyone’s hippie darling. We’ve been hard at work fabricating these guys and piles of props to perform a rendition of a little-known Shel Silverstein piece from the seventies.  Come see what all the fuss is about!  Tickets are available here, but get yours soon.  They sell out fast.

Armageddon Sekrit Santa 2013

photo (1)Armageddon Sekrit Santa 2013

Here’s the elf I drew this year for my gaming community’s secret santa project. She didn’t have nipple like last year’s, but I think the recipient will be pleased nonetheless. The other image is a little certificate I drew up on request for another player to give to their secret santa. It’s an artful Christmas!

More Fantasy Doodles

Can you tell what I’ve been up to lately?

ArtStudio

I’ve been working a lot in watercolor since my GMac died last spring. I found myself getting a little bored with it, so I decided to explore the drawing app ArtStudio on my iPad. I’ve owned it forever and never did anything serious with it. I took a photo and opened it in the app, which does almost everything that I use Photoshop for. I have a $10 stylus that I picked up at Walgreens, and I just dug in. I’m pretty impressed with the software. The tools are intuitive, and I like that you can rotate your drawing just like a sketchbook. This is just a work in progress that I’ll be playing with for awhile, but it’s been fun to get back into digital painting.

Fantasy Fashion

Here’s some concept art I’m developing for one of my most beloved online games, Armageddon MUD.  I was asked to come up with some designs loosely based on Mayan and Egyptian garments and accessories. I haven’t done such minimalistic pen and ink drawings in awhile.  It was a fun exercise.

Character Portraits

Some more fun character portraits from Armageddon MUD.  We have one wind magicker, and one dwarven badass mama.

Wings and Wheels

Here’s a color study of a really fun freelance project I’m working on. The client asked for a bird wing made of bicycle parts. I’ve never been great at nonorganic shapes, but I’ve been having a blast with this one.

Circus Circus!

It’s my new thing. My fabulous fantastic and phenomenal friend Nick from high school commissioned this piece from me a few months ago to adorn his gypsy wagon while he travels to and from various costumey, piratical, and circusy events across Oregon. He chose the text and I illustrated the portrait and did the lettering in acrylics. Vintage circus posters are such a feast for the eyes, they’re so fun to use as inspiration.

Parts and Pieces

This is a piece I started right after Christmas and finally finished for Good PDX’s upcoming anatomy-themed group show.

Process

Two of my sisters are getting married this summer, and my twin has involved me heavily in the graphic design for her invitations and wedding information website.  She’s planning on an all-weekend throw-down badass camp-out wedding in the woods, and she asked me to draw some pictures illustrating the dress-up theme for each day of theweekend.  Here we have Happy Camper day, Crazy Hat day, and Solid Color day.
